Prabowo and German President Agree to Strengthen Strategic Partnership, IEU-CEPA Becomes Key Focus.

JAKARTA – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier have agreed to strengthen the strategic partnership between Indonesia and Germany, focusing on economic cooperation, energy transition, education, and global peace efforts.

The agreement was reached during President Steinmeier’s state visit to Indonesia at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday (June 15, 2026). The German President received a ceremonial welcome featuring a military honor guard, a 21-gun salute, and enthusiastic greetings from students waving the flags of both nations.

During their bilateral meeting and joint press conference, the two leaders discussed a range of strategic issues aimed at enhancing cooperation between Indonesia and Germany amid growing global economic and geopolitical challenges.

IEU-CEPA at the Center of Economic Cooperation

One of the key topics discussed was the acceleration of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA). President Prabowo expressed hope for Germany’s support in finalizing the agreement, which is expected to expand market access and strengthen trade relations between Indonesia and the European Union.

President Steinmeier welcomed the progress of the negotiations, emphasizing that the agreement could create new investment opportunities, boost innovation, and encourage more German companies to invest in Indonesia.

Advancing Energy Transition Efforts

The two leaders also highlighted cooperation under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), focusing on clean energy financing and the development of critical mineral supply chains.

Indonesia’s vast reserves of nickel and other strategic minerals were recognized as essential resources for supporting Germany’s green energy and electric vehicle industries.

Expanding Opportunities in Employment and Education

Indonesia and Germany agreed to broaden opportunities for skilled Indonesian workers in Germany, particularly in high-tech industries. Both countries also committed to strengthening vocational education and training programs to enhance the competitiveness of Indonesia’s workforce in the global market.

Commitment to Global Peace and Stability

On international affairs, President Prabowo and President Steinmeier underscored the importance of resolving global conflicts through diplomacy and dialogue. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining international peace, stability, and respect for international law.

Steinmeier described Indonesia as a key pillar of stability in Southeast Asia and an increasingly influential partner on the global stage.

WPO Supports Strategic Cooperation

World Peace Organization (WPO) President Prof. Dr. Bambang Herry Purnomo, SH., MH., expressed strong support for the strengthened partnership between Indonesia and Germany.

According to him, the agreement reflects the spirit of diplomacy, sustainable economic development, and international cooperation that contributes to global peace and prosperity.

“This agreement represents a concrete step toward regional and global stability. WPO will continue to support diplomatic efforts that prioritize dialogue, mutual respect, and equal partnership for lasting peace,” Prof. Bambang stated.

The state visit marks a significant milestone in Indonesia-Germany relations and reinforces both countries’ commitment to expanding cooperation across strategic sectors for the benefit of their peoples and the broader international community
