MAPUTO — As part of the implementation of bilateral cooperation and solidarity among Asian-African nations, the Indonesian Ministry of Industry, through the Directorate General of International Industrial Cooperation, in collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy in Maputo and the Ministry of Trade of Mozambique, organized a Culinary Industry Training Program for 30 Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) entrepreneurs in Maputo, Mozambique.
The program was officially inaugurated by the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Mozambique alongside the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Mozambique. Conducted over a five-year period from 2015 to 2020, the initiative was based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation between the Government of Indonesia and the Republic of Mozambique.
The training focused on practical food and beverage production as part of Indonesia’s technology transfer initiative aimed at enhancing the capabilities of Mozambican SMEs in the food and beverage industry sector.
Training modules adopted the “Industrial Incubator” and “Practical Production Management by Kaizen” concepts, emphasizing 10 percent theoretical learning and 90 percent hands-on practice to ensure effective skill development and industrial productivity.
This international-scale training program, initiated by the Indonesian Ministry of Industry, aimed not only at industrial technology transfer but also at strengthening industrial and trade relations between the two countries. Furthermore, the initiative was designed to reinforce the spirit of the Asian-African Conference solidarity while enhancing Indonesia’s political and economic image on the global stage.
The technical training team from the Indonesian Ministry of Industry involved in the industrial capacity-building program included Ir. Yang Yang, Ir. Avia, Ir. Sugesti, Ir. Diah Yuli, M.Si, and Adolf Hutabarat, SE, M.Si, MA, who is also a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the Indonesian Christian University (FEB UKI) Jakarta and Entrepreneurship Lecturer at LPKK-UKI.
Looking ahead to the challenges of the Industry 4.0 era, the capacity-building program is planned to expand into other industrial sectors, including textiles, Mozambican batik production, furniture, leather and leather products, textile and textile products, fashion industry exhibitions, and investment promotion initiatives.
The future programs are expected to involve collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Indonesian Embassies across Southern African countries, the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, BBIA Bogor, BBT Bandung, SME stakeholders in Indonesia, and related academic institutions.
