Not Just Chasing Medals, Ghosun Iron Camp Builds Character Through Boxing.
Bekasi –JACKTV NEWS Ghosun Iron Camp (GIC) has once again demonstrated its commitment to sports development and youth character building by sending 10 boxing athletes from Jakarta to compete in the 2026 Surabaya Mayor's Cup Boxing Championship, scheduled to take place from June 26–28, 2026, in Surabaya, East Java.
The athletes' participation is part of GIC’s ongoing development program as the Branch Secretariat of the Central Jakarta Boxing Association (PERTINA Jakarta Pusat). Although officially operating under Central Jakarta PERTINA, the athletes have been trained and developed in Bekasi, West Java.
Ghosun Iron Camp CEO, Susanto, stated that boxing is not solely about winning medals and achieving sporting success, but also serves as an effective platform for shaping the character of young people. According to him, various social challenges faced by today's youth—including drug abuse, street violence, bullying, and excessive gadget use—require positive and sustainable developmental approaches.
“Through boxing, young athletes learn discipline, respect for others, emotional control, and mental resilience to face life's challenges,” Susanto said during a socialization and outreach program attended by students and educators on Friday (June 12, 2026).
GIC promotes three core values in all of its development programs: Discipline, Respect, and a Champion's Mentality. Participants are taught to value time, commit to consistent training, respect parents and teachers, and develop the courage to rise after failure.
The 10 athletes selected to compete in Surabaya have undergone intensive training programs covering technical skills, physical conditioning, competitive mindset development, and character strengthening. According to GIC management, all training and travel expenses are fully covered by the organization, with no financial burden placed on the athletes.
Beyond pursuing achievements in the ring, GIC hopes that participation in the national championship will provide valuable experience for the young boxers, helping them improve their skills and gain competitive exposure.
During the event, GIC also expressed its hope that local governments and members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) would continue supporting boxing development programs, which are considered a positive avenue for youth development.
Susanto said that information regarding the training program and the athletes’ participation plans had been communicated to various stakeholders, including local government officials and law enforcement authorities. He emphasized the importance of support for sports activities that focus on character building, discipline, and athletic achievement.
“We hope sports development programs will continue to receive support from all stakeholders because sports are one of the most effective tools for building a healthy, productive, and high-achieving younger generation,” he said.
Sports observers have also noted that consistent and professional youth development programs are among the most important factors in producing successful athletes. Support from government institutions, sports organizations, educational institutions, and the community is considered essential in creating a sustainable sports development ecosystem.
Through their participation in the 2026 Surabaya Mayor's Cup, Ghosun Iron Camp hopes its athletes will showcase their best abilities while maintaining sportsmanship and the positive values instilled throughout their training journey.
The departure of these 10 athletes serves as a clear indication that regional sports development continues to grow and has the potential to produce athletes capable of competing at both national and international levels.
