The Pontianak Immigration Office has granted a 30-day Forced Stay Permit (ITKT) to 13 Japanese nationals serving as members of the Japan Disaster Relief Team.
The permit was issued on Thursday, September 24, 2026, after the team’s previous 30-day stay allowance under official passports and the Official Visa Exemption facility expired.
The extension was requested based on an official letter from the Defense Logistics Agency, seeking legal certainty for the Japanese disaster relief personnel so they could continue carrying out their duties in Indonesia.
The ITKT is an immigration facility provided to foreign nationals who are unable to leave Indonesia within the validity period of their existing stay permit due to certain circumstances or official assignments that are still ongoing.
Head of the Pontianak Immigration Office, Sam Fernando, said the office remains committed to providing fast and responsive immigration services, particularly for foreign nationals involved in international humanitarian missions.
“Service convenience goes hand in hand with prudence. Every application, including urgent cases, must undergo strict verification to ensure that the immigration status of every foreign national within our jurisdiction remains lawful and properly documented,” Sam said.
He also praised the coordination between the Pontianak Immigration Office and the Defense Logistics Agency, which enabled the stay permit process to be completed efficiently.
The process included biometric recording, document verification and data checks through the immigration system. After meeting all requirements, the 13 members of the Japan Disaster Relief Team were granted ITKT permits valid for 30 days.
The Pontianak Immigration Office said the measure reflects Indonesia’s commitment to supporting humanitarian missions and international cooperation while ensuring that all foreign nationals maintain valid immigration status in accordance with Indonesian law.
As an institution under the Directorate General of Immigration, Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, the Pontianak Immigration Office continues to provide responsive immigration services for foreign nationals involved in humanitarian missions, international cooperation and other strategic activities.
